Danis Russell MA, MBA
Dan Russell has been the Chief Executive Officer of Genesee County Community Mental Health, Flint, MI, since 1999. His community involvement includes serving as chair of the Genesee County Collaborative, Treasurer of the Board of the Weiss Advocacy Center, Chair of the Board of Resource Genesee, and Chair of the Mental Health and Substance Use Committee of the Greater Flint Health Coalition
On the state level he is Chair of the Contract and Finance Committee of the Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards and also serves on the executive committee. He has held administrative and executive positions in Ohio and New Jersey. He has over 35 years of experience in behavioral health as a clinician and administrator, and holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology and a MBA in finance from the University of Dayton.
Under Dan’s leadership, Genesee County has developed a reputation for implementing cutting edge programs that have reduced costs and increased service delivery for the individuals served. Dan has a particular interest in the integration of behavioral health and primary care. Genesee County was one of five behavioral health originations to receive a HRSA community health center planning grant in 2011, and in 2012 the Agency received a 330 grant to develop primary care clinics.
Dan was recognized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness-Genesee County in 2012 for “Outstanding Leadership in Mental Health Services”,
and was named one of five Behavioral Healthcare Champions of 2012 by Behavioral Healthcare Magazine.
